Bibleing 101 | Series Introduction

—

3–5 minutes

Has the Bible ever felt big, intimidating, daunting, confusing, or overwhelming?

Have you ever been terrified that you’re ‘Bibleing’ incorrectly?

I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met who feel this way. They feel a longing and desperation for more from the Bible, but they are overwhelmed because they have no idea where or how to begin. They’re often told that they need to study the Bible, but they rarely feel like they’re shown how to do so. At the end of the day, after they have voraciously consumed the latest Bible study resource, they feel like they’re still guessing at much of what the Bible says and that they’ve really only learned what someone else thinks the Bible says or means.

Instead of thinking about how the passage they just read helps them love God and their neighbor in a deeper way, they’re wondering if they’ll ever get beyond feeling like they’re spinning their wheels.

Maybe that sounds like your experience.

Or, maybe you don’t fully resonate with those feelings of desperation, but you do want to better understand the Bible and how to grow deeper in your faith through engaging with it.

Either way, this Bibleing 101 series is for you.

Our biggest desire at Get More Ministries is to help the people who ‘want more’ to ‘get more’. Our main area of focus is to help people engage with Scripture on their own so God can move their hearts and minds and spur them onto greater intimacy and maturity in Christ. We LOVE the Bible. All of it. And we cannot fully explain how monumentally important the Bible has been to our faith and intimacy with God, and we want to help others experience the same.

This series is our first step in doing so. It is designed to introduce people to the building blocks of Biblical engagement (my term for “sitting down and opening your Bible) so they have a foundation to stand on and begin experiencing deeper relationship with God.

A Roadmap For The Series

So, what can you expect from Bibleing 101?

Well, you aren’t going to go from novice to Bible scholar, but you will have a better understanding of the foundational concepts and practices that will serve as a spring board into deeper Biblical engagement.

The series has 18 different posts in addition to a series introduction (this post) and a series conclusion. The 18 posts are organized into three overarching segments.

The first segment (posts 1-6) defines the Bible and explains how it developed into its current form. This information sets our expectations for how God’s Word is designed to speak to our hearts and minds.

The second segment (posts 7-14) provides understanding about how the Bible communicates to us and how we are to understand what its content means.

The third segment (posts 15-18) explains how we engage the Bible — how do we sit down, open the Bible, and grow closer to God (what I call ‘Bibleing’).

Together, these three segments lay a foundation that allows you to understand what you should and shouldn’t expect from the Bible. Learning this has been instrumental to my ability to ‘get more’ from the Bible and mature in my faith. I am confident it will help you too.

So, at the end of this series, my hope is that you feel like you can begin treading the waters of Bibleing with a bit more confidence. The overwhelm kicks in when we are worried that the process isn’t working ‘correctly’. Hopefully this series teaches you that the process of Bibleing is a lot less formulaic and a lot more of incremental growth through consistent Bibleing experiences.

I’m excited. Hopefully you are too.

I look forward to seeing you in the next post!

Happy Bibleing!
